Growing up I never saw myself as the brightest student. All throughout school I struggled to get a “C”. I was nowhere near the smartest of the class. As a matter a fact, throughout some of my elementary years I was pulled out of my regular classes for ESOL (this was a class for people who spoke another language). In middle and high school, I was put in “special” Reading and Writing classes due to the lack of reading comprehension.
Picking up a book was not something I did all too often. If I read 2-3 books throughout middle and high school (that I can recall), that was a lot for me and it wasn’t by choice. Reading was not my best friend. So, I avoided it because it intimidated me. I somehow made it through and managed to obtain a high school diploma (that’s an entire different story). Let’s fast forward to adulthood!
As I became older and returned to God after having walked away from him at the age of 16, reading the bible was a “must”, a discipline that was highly encouraged and recommended. I’d go to Sunday school weekly, Bible Study Classes on Thursday’s and although the passion stirred deep within me to want to learn, I always felt intimidated by the Bible. Not because it spoke harsh truths that I needed to hear, but because SO much of it I didn’t understand. I would see so many words and so much history that it just felt overwhelming. But again, my passion to KNOW God more moved me to make it work somehow. One day during Sunday School class, one scripture popped out at me. A simple scripture that sparked so much hope in me… Romans 10:17,
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. NKJV
And so, my journey began to learning God’s word through hearing. I began to listen to sermons, all with the intended goal to want to get to know God more. From there I moved on to reading devotionals (short ones), then Christian Fiction, Christian Living Books, Bible Studies and finally digging in to the infallible word of God.
At this point you are probably wondering…. What’s your point? What are you trying to tell me?
It’s simple. If God saw and heard a young girls simple struggle that carried on into adulthood and still managed to stir in her a passion to KNOW Him! He CAN do it with YOU!
My friends, God’s word is imperative for our lives. It’s a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. It not only pierces dividing soul and spirit but its alive and active and WILL speak to every situation, every area, every struggle, pain and yes, every joy in our lives. God’s word will quiet all the enemies lies. It will transform our minds helping us to know the good, well-pleasing, perfect will of God. God’s word will direct our paths as we lean on Him for all understanding, accomplishing to make us the people that HE created us to be.
Today I’d like to encourage you. Would you pray this simple prayer?
God, stir in me a passion to know you through your word. I want to know you Lord.
I want to know you more. In Jesus name I ask, Amen!
I’m cheering you on my friend!!!
